Omnicom enters in an ‘upfront’ mobile ad buying deal with TwitterJune 26, 2014Omnicom, one of the largest global advertising agency holding groups, signed a two year mobile advertising deal with Twitter worth $230m. The deal will integrate Omnicom’s automated ad buying trading desk Accuen with Twitter’s mobile ad exchange, MoPub. It will be Twitter’s first mobile ad exchange agreement with an advertising holding company and Omnicom’s first initiative towards ‘upfront’ ad buying with Twitter. The idea of ‘Upfront’ is buying of ad inventory in advance at a pre-negotiated price. The concept originally comes from the TV advertising industry, where advertising slots around desirable content (e.g. SuperBowl, high-profile drama) are sold in advance of the broadcasting year.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. PubMatic’s decision to move into the mobile space is long overdue. Mobile advertising can no longer be treated as an afterthought or a complement to its online counterpart.
Facebook launches mobile ad network in an attempt to increase sources of mobile advertising revenueMay 06, 2014At its most recent developer event in the US, Facebook announced the launch of the Facebook Audience Network (FAN). With the introduction of FAN, Facebook's own mobile ad network, the social media company will sell advertising outside its own platform, on third party applications, powered by data obtained through the Facebook site. FAN will compete with companies like Google-owned Admob, Inmobi, Velti and Millennial Media. It will not however, be a competitor to Twitter's MoPub, which as an ad exchange, can be tapped into by FAN to gain access to more advertisers.
Yandex focuses on domestic product expansion before increasing international reachFebruary 24, 2014Yandex reported a 37.0% year-on-year (yoy) increase in its Q4 2013 earnings and 37.3% annual yoy increase, reaching RUB12.1bn (€301.8m) in Q4 and RUB39.5bn (€986.5m) for the full year. Yandex 2013 results were in line with IHS forecasts and driven primarily by strong growth in search advertising, its core product which increased 39.6% in Q4. Yandex benefited significantly from its partnership with Mail.ru.
