CommScope to Acquire Arris for $7.4B, Creating Cable Industry Heavyweight Poised for the FutureNovember 28, 2018US telecommunications equipment maker CommScope will acquire Arris, in a $7.4B deal valued at $5.69 billion, with the difference comprised of CommScope’s assumption of Arris’s debt. As part of the deal, the Carlyle Group will make a $1M equity investment in CommScope for an approximate 16% stake in the new company. CommScope’s CEO Eddie Edwards has claimed the two companies’ product lines are complementary, and that the combined company will “enable end-to-end wired and wireless communications infrastructure solutions that neither company could otherwise achieve on its own.” The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2019.Subscribers Only

Verizon Courts Cord-cutters with Newly-announced 5G Home Service with Free Apple TV or ChromecastSeptember 13, 2018Verizon recently announced the rollout of its 5G wireless home broadband service in the US, 5G Home, with orders opening September 13th, 2018 and launch beginning October 1st in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Sacramento. The company is touting typical speeds of approximately 300 Mbps, peaking at 1 Gigabit, with no data caps. The service is priced at $50/month for existing Verizon subscribers, and $70/month for non-subscribers, and comes with three months of YouTube TV free. Onkyo Expands its High Resolution Music StoreFebruary 20, 2015Home AV hardware company Onkyo has launched a digital music store, Onkyo Music, in the UK, the US, and Germany. Onkyo Music offers “hundreds of thousands” of high resolution music tracks for purchase. The e-Onkyo music download service first launched in 2005 in Japan, and Onkyo Music is the company’s expansion of the concept. The store is a partnership with digital music specialist 7Digital, and is a download-to-own service with no streaming option. High resolution music is priced at $15-25 per album and $2-4 for single tracks, and the site allows search and download of lower-resolution CD-quality tracks as well. Onkyo is currently developing the Onkyo Music app for iOS and Android, and plans to allow files to be downloaded to multiple devices, whilst also being stored in a cloud locker.Subscribers Only
