British set-top box vendor Amino to acquire US competitor EntoneJuly 30, 2015British set-top box (STB) vendor Amino has conditionally offered to purchase US-based STB vendor Entone for $73 million. Entone generated $43.4 million in revenue for 2014 and claims to have approximately 150 customers worldwide, while Amino posted $56.5 million meaning the combined business’s revenue may reach in excess of $100 million. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2015.

Amazon brings Prime Music to UKJuly 28, 2015Amazon has launched Amazon Prime Music in the UK, bringing a catalogue of more than one million songs to the country’s Amazon Prime subscribers. The UK launch comes a full year after the service debuted in the US and will allow access to songs without an increase in their subscription cost. Amazon’s existing digital music retail and storage offers are integrated into the new service. Six Nations rugby stays on free TV in the UK with joint BBC/ITV dealJuly 10, 2015Content deal: the BBC and ITV will share rights to Six Nations rugby union in the UK from 2016 after signing a joint six-year deal worth a reported £50 million a year. Under the deal, which runs to 2021, the BBC will air the live home matches of the Scotland, Wales and France teams, with ITV airing live England, Ireland and Italy home matches. Booxmedia claims to offer an off-the-shelf, cloud-based multi-screen TV platform that offers content recommendation, analytics, targeted advertisement, cloud-based remote control and, payment and provisioning systems.

Barclaycard’s UK wearable payment plans will struggle to compete with Apple PayJuly 01, 2015Barclaycard, the UK card issuer of the Barclays banking group, is relaunching its bPay contactless payments system in July with three new NFC devices: an updated wristband, key fobs and stickers. The service allows users from any bank with a UK-registered Visa or Master debit or credit card to add money to a pre-paid account online, from its mobile app, or set up auto top-up. At launch, payments will be limited to £20 but will rise to £30 in September when UK limits are raised.
