HBO licenses content to Amazon Prime Video in JapanFebruary 05, 2018HBO signed a content deal with Amazon in January 2018 to license 50 HBO series on Amazon Prime Video in Japan. Existing Prime subscribers will be able to watch HBO shows, including Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, The Sopranos and The Wire, without having to pay an additional fee. HBO content will be available on Amazon Prime Video in Japan starting April 1, 2018. Details on the duration of the deal are undisclosed.

Tencent acquires majority Supercell stake in record mobile games dealJune 21, 2016A group led by Chinese internet company Tencent has agreed to acquire an 84 percent stake in Finland-based mobile games developer Supercell for $8.6 billion. The stake, acquired from Japan’s Softbank, values Supercell at $10.2 billion. Following the close of the deal, Tencent expects to hold a voting interest worth 50 percent of the new controlling consortium. Supercell’s existing management will continue to lead the company.

LINE aims to go public in Japan and the United States in July 2016June 13, 2016Japanese messaging app LINE announced plans to file for an initial public offering (IPO) in both Japan and the United States in July 2016. This is to further strengthen its position in Asia and its continuing international expansion efforts. LINE is entering MVNO business by launching LINE MobileMarch 30, 2016Japanese messaging app LINE announced at “LINE Conference Tokyo 2016” that it is launching its own mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business through DoCoMo cellular network in summer 2016. With price starting from JPY 500 (USD 4.40) a month, LINE Mobile will offer unlimited free LINE calls, chats and other services offered by LINE such as LINE music.
