Comcast makes its offer for Sky officialApril 25, 2018Comcast has made a formal offer for Sky, valuing the UK-based satellite operator at £22 billion ($30.7 billion). Today's official offer of £12.50 represents a premium of more than 16% over 21st Century Fox’s offer for the 61% of Sky it does not own. Sky's independent board of directors has this morning withdrawn its recommendation of the Fox bid, making a battle for ownership of Sky between Comcast, Fox and possibly Walt Disney Co, seemingly inevitable.

Sky and Netflix agree European partnershipMarch 01, 2018Pan-European pay TV operator Sky has announced a partnership with global OTT subscription service Netflix, to make Netflix available on its DTH and OTT platforms. Sky is to integrate Netflix into its advanced DTH set-top box Sky Q across all of its markets, starting with the UK and Ireland, via a new subscription TV package later this year.

Comcast intends to outbid 21st Century Fox for ownership of SkyFebruary 27, 2018US cable giant Comcast has unveiled a possible takeover offer for Sky, aiming to outbid 21st Century Fox. Comcast today made an all-cash offer of £12.50 per share in cash for the UK-based satellite operator, which represents a 16% increase on 21st Century Fox’s offer, implying a valuation of £22.1 billion ($28.5 billion). Fox, which already owns a 39% stake in Sky, offered £18.5 billion ($23.8 billion) to acquire the shares in the operator that it does not own.

NBCU’s transition to genre-specific D2C strategy reflects broader trend in SVoD marketFebruary 12, 2016US media group NBCUniversal (NBCU) has unveiled a new reality-themed subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) service, branded Hayu, which it will launch in the UK, Ireland and Australia in March. Available on a rolling contract for a monthly fee of £3.99, €4.99 or A$5.99, the cross-platform service will feature more than 3,000 TV episodes from shows such Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Made in Chelsea, The Real Housewives and The Millionaire Matchmaker, including full boxsets. Sky continues to grow in challenging environmentJanuary 29, 2016Despite fierce competition, Sky added 205,000 new retail customers in the UK and Ireland during the last three months of 2015 – the highest quarter-on-quarter growth for the platform in the last ten years. In Germany and Austria, net additions totaled 120,000 and even in Italy, where Sky had been losing subscribers, 12,000 customers were added. Sky broadband subscribers in the UK and Ireland increased 144,000 in the quarter, reaching 5.89 million at the end of 2015.

Sky maintains online advantage with pan-regional European HBO content dealNovember 18, 2015Sky and HBO have announced an expanded pan-regional output and production partnership which will make first-run HBO content exclusive to Sky in Germany, Austria and Italy–effectively bringing these territories in line with the UK and Ireland. Poland's TVN launches original commissions for Player.pl serviceOctober 07, 2015Polish broadcaster TVN is pushing further into online with an investment in five original series. The first series, a Polish version of US comedy Web Therapy, will launch on TVN’s Player.pl service on 21 October. Speaking at the Mipcom TV market in Cannes this morning, TVN executives said the 10 episode series will cost 1 million zlotys ($266 million), a similar budget to one of its traditional linear TV series. Between Q4 this year and Q1 2016, TVN will also debut two reality series, Lip Sync Battle and Start U Up, documentary series My Love Story and drama co-production Cape Town.Subscribers Only
