Tencent sets out 2019 strategy for WeChat: Voice assistant, mini programs, and videoJanuary 24, 2019Tencent has revealed plans to integrate its voice-enabled digital assistant Xiaowei into its flagship messaging app WeChat. The integration will allow WeChat’s more than 1 billion active users to perform tasks such as playing music and hailing rides via voice command within the app. However, no further details on either the launch date of Xiaowei on WeChat or how many services it will support were revealed at the time of the announcement. Spotify and Tencent Agree “Strategic Collaboration”December 05, 2017Spotify and Tencent have agreed a share swap and investment deal. The exact terms between the streaming music company and the Chinese internet giant have not been revealed but industry publications have reported that under the deal Spotify and Tencent Music Entertainment TME) will get 10% of each other’s businesses. TME, which is majority-owned by Tencent is the leading music streaming service in China powering offers from QQ Music, KuGou and Kuwo. iQiyi to work with Baidu for more AI application partnerships in 2018November 17, 2017During its annual iJOY event in Shanghai, Baidu-owned online video service, iQiyi has revealed plans to release more than 200 shows in 2018 and to collaborate with its mother company Baidu on artificial intelligence (AI) applications to drive its business. iQiyi aims to be a top media company driven by both content and technology innovation. iQiyi was founded in April 2010 by Baidu and Providence Equity Partners. Baidu is the biggest shareholder of iQiyi, with 80.5% stake in the company. In September 2017, iQiyi announced its plan to file for an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States in 2018.
