Samsung and LGD Announce Fourth Quarter Results: Pressures in SMD MarketFebruary 03, 2014South Korean display panel makers Samsung Display (SDC)* and LG Display (LGD) recently announced their earnings from the fourth quarter of 2013. Both firms have maintained top positions in the Small and Medium display (SMD) industry throughout 2013, gaining significant esteem with innovative display designs and technologies in the smartphone display segment. However, both firms were met with year-over-year (YoY) declines in both revenue and operating profit during Q4-2013, exhibiting over a 15% YoY decline in revenue and over 50% YoY decline in operating profit. While much of the decline can be attributed to seasonality and declining panel ASPs for device applications like TVs, Tablets, and Smartphones, some other factors in the SMD space could have contributed to the decline.Subscribers Only
