France's Banijay Group buys Endemol Shine to create European production giantOctober 28, 2019France-based production company Banijay Group has reached agreement to acquire Endemol Shine Group from Walt Disney Company and US hedge fund Apollo Global Management. The price for the deal was not disclosed but is widely reported to be $2.2 billion. A statement from the group said the deal will be financed through a capital increase of Banijay Group and debt. On closure, subject to regulatory clearances and employee consultations. Post-closing, the combined group will be majority owned (67.1%) by LDH, the holding company controlled by Stephane Courbit's LOV Group, and Vivendi (32.9%), which invested in Banijay in 2014

Sweden replaces radio and TV licence feeJanuary 03, 2019Sweden this week became the latest country to abolish the radio and TV licence fee. With effect from 1 January, the old system of a payment due from any household with a radio or TV set has been replaced by a fee levied on individuals liable for income tax aged over 18. The fee is based on 1% of taxable income, up to a maximum of Skr 1,300 ($144) per person. Anyone with no taxable income, such as full-time students, will not have to pay.

Canal Plus wins back French rights to Premier League from AlticeNovember 01, 2018Canal Plus has won back rights to the Premier League in France for the three seasons from 2019/20 to 2021/22. The pay TV group is understood to have won the bidding against incumbent Altice, which is paying €115 million a season in the current cycle. Last minute deal secures Canalsat carriage for SFR channelsSeptember 19, 2018The RMC Sport premium channels were added to the CanalSat satellite service in France on 18 September after SFR and Canal Plus group reached agreement. The four RMC Sport channels and RMC News will be available for an additional €9 a month for existing subscribers and €19 a month for new subscribers.
