France's Banijay Group buys Endemol Shine to create European production giantOctober 28, 2019France-based production company Banijay Group has reached agreement to acquire Endemol Shine Group from Walt Disney Company and US hedge fund Apollo Global Management. The price for the deal was not disclosed but is widely reported to be $2.2 billion. A statement from the group said the deal will be financed through a capital increase of Banijay Group and debt. On closure, subject to regulatory clearances and employee consultations. Post-closing, the combined group will be majority owned (67.1%) by LDH, the holding company controlled by Stephane Courbit's LOV Group, and Vivendi (32.9%), which invested in Banijay in 2014

Canal Plus wins back French rights to Premier League from AlticeNovember 01, 2018Canal Plus has won back rights to the Premier League in France for the three seasons from 2019/20 to 2021/22. The pay TV group is understood to have won the bidding against incumbent Altice, which is paying €115 million a season in the current cycle. The deal is a boost for Canal Plus, which has lost rights to France's Ligue 1 from 2020/21. Altice also has rights to the Champions League and Europa League in France until 2020/21.Subscribers Only

Canal Plus loses out to Mediapro in French football rights auctionMay 30, 2018Canal Plus has been left empty-handed in the auction for domestic rights to French football from 2020, with Mediapro winning the bidding for three of seven packages of live rights and BeInSports, which currently shares live rights with Canal Plus, securing one package. Telecoms operator Free one a package of digital rights. The LFP said the value of rights so far sold for 2020-24 is €1.153.5 billion ($1,345 billion), an increase of 60% on the 2016-2020 cycle.
