Facebook to air La Liga free in India for next three seasonsAugust 14, 2018Spain's football league, La Liga, will be aired on Facebook free of charge in India and neighboring countries for the next three seasons. La Liga said that all 380 matches of the first division will air on the social network in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka from the start of the 2018/19 season this Friday. No details of the payment were reported. Rights were previously held by Sony. The move follows Facebook's acquisition of rights to the Premier League in five Asian countries, together with a deal with Eleven Sports in the UK which will see Facebook screening weekly La Liga and Serie A matches free.Subscribers Only

Netflix partners with OSN to grow its MENA subscriber baseFebruary 19, 2018MENA pay TV operator OSN has announced the signing of a partnership with Netflix. This deal is the first between Netflix and a pay TV operator across the MENA region. As a result of the partnership, OSN satellite subscribers will be able to access Netflix via a new hybrid set-top box, which OSN plans to launch at the end of the second quarter of 2018. Vodafone Cameroon service shut down following licencing issuesSeptember 22, 2017Vodafone Cameroon was forced to shut down their service on 14 September 2017, following investigations into the company’s wireless broadband operation. Vodafone Cameroon - an Afrimax-Vodafone joint company began offering wireless broadband services in Cameroon in September 2016. In November 2014, Afrimax, an African wireless broadband operator and telecoms management company, entered a strategic partnership agreement with Vodafone Group that allowed the two companies to enter new African telecommunications markets, launching mobile and wireless broadband services in Uganda, Zambia, Ghana and Cameroon. Through the Partner Market Agreement, Vodafone was able to extend their global footprint whilst Afrimax gained continued access to a range of Vodafone products, networks, and services. In all four countries, services are offered under the Vodafone Country brand and the company entities are being referred to as part of Afrimax Group.

Star India acquires Indian Premier League rightsSeptember 04, 2017Star India, the 21st Century Fox-owned broadcaster, has won the auction for rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the five-year period 2018 to 2022. Star India paid $2.56 billion for all seven categories of rights, including TV and online rights in India and five packages covering the rest of the world.
