The esports audience is predominantly made up of young adults, skewing heavily towards males. Not surprisingly, digital platforms dedicated to esports have proved highly popular with young adults. Competitions are watched live on online platforms rather than traditional TV channels, and Twitch (acquired by Amazon in 2014) has gained the leader role in the industry—with the exception of Asia, which is driven by completely separate dynamics.
