Liberty Global to sell CEE DTH assets to M7 GroupDecember 21, 2018Liberty Global has reached an agreement to sell its Central and Eastern European DTH (direct-to-home) TV services to international pay TV operator M7 Group. The deal, valued at €180 million ($206 million), covers the UPC Direct service in Hungary, the freeSAT brand in Czech Republic and Slovakia, and FocusSat in Romania. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval, which is expected in the first half of 2019. The proposed deal follows Liberty Global’s sale of key cable TV assets in Germany and Central and Eastern Europe to Vodafone in May 2018, and the divestment of its Austrian unit to T-Mobile in July 2018. The transaction provides further signs of Liberty Global retreating from Europe and doubling down on the markets where it has scale.Subscribers Only

Disney agrees to buy Fox entertainment assets for $52 billionDecember 14, 2017Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire most of 21st Century Fox’s assets, including the 20th Century Fox film studio, most of its cable networks, a 39% stake in European pay TV business Sky and a 30% stake in Hulu. Disney will pay $52.4 billion in stock (subject to adjustments) with 21st Century Fox shareholders receiving 0.2745 Disney shares for each Fox share. Disney will also assume $13.7 billion of net debt.

Altice further expands content strategy with Media Capital acquisitionJuly 18, 2017Telecommunications group Altice is to acquire a 94.7% stake in the Portuguese media company Media Capital from Spanish media group Prisa. The deal will give Altice control of both an assortment of popular Portuguese TV and radio stations, including free-to-air TV channel TVI, and content producer Plural Entertainment.
