AMD didn’t come to play—It came to slayAugust 19, 2019In June 2017, AMD reentered the data center market with a new CPU, EPYC, that topped the performance benchmark charts in a fresh challenge to Intel’s dominant position in the server CPU market. And although AMD’s 2017 performance records were short lived , a differentiated set of features, such as large memory capacity and I/O bandwidth, helped EPYC finds its niche in the DC. By December 2018, 5% of servers ran on AMD x86 CPUs, up from 1% in January 2017.Enterprises and hyperscale cloud service providers (CSPs) alike embraced EPYC, with Baidu, Amazon Web Services, Google, and Microsoft giving it a stamp of approval by deploying EPYC-based servers. Open source product development impels Red Hat to move forwardJune 06, 2019The 2018 Red Hat Summit was held in Boston, Massachusetts, from May 7 to 9, with approximately 8,500 people in attendance. The expo hall featured tech giants like Intel, Dell, and NetApp as well as start-up companies like RancherLabs. Red Hat customers in attendance included large enterprises like GE, Delta Airlines, Exxon Mobil, Deutsche Bank, and Volkswagen. IBM, Red Hat’s future owner, pending regulatory approvals, was present and highlighted its commitment to Red Hat’s open source product development process and community. Inside Tencent’s first and largest data centerOctober 05, 2018Tencent built its first data center (DC) a few streets away from the Chinese National Supercomputing Center in Tianjin, home to Tianhe-1A, the 31,000-CPU HPC that topped the Top 500 supercomputer list in 2010.
