Mounting mini LEDs on amorphous silicon panels in a backlight unit (BLU) can increase the LCD image quality and ease the TV panel market’s glut in supply and demand. To compete with dual cell LCDs, mini LED in BLU and pulse-width modulation (PWM) local dimming has to increase the image quality further and increase the PWM dimming frequency to 1,500 Hz or above for vision protection.
