Tala Bassil is a research analyst within the Solar and Energy Storage team at IHS Markit.

Ms. Bassil is responsible for researching the stationary energy storage market across the EMEA region, focusing on the commercial and industrial market and renewable integration. She supports the team's coverage of the downstream solar PV markets in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Prior to joining IHS Markit, she worked as an analyst within a renewable energy team for a private equity firm based in Dubai, where she supported investment teams investigating opportunities for wind and solar projects investments in emerging markets. Tala Bassil holds an undergraduate degree in business from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, United States, and with a master's degree in development studies from the University of Cambridge United Kingdom. She is based in the Bracknell office.

Ofgem’s Targeted Charging Review will significantly affect the business case for behind-the-meter storage in the United Kingdom

On 4 February 2019, Ofgem closed its Targeted Charging Review (TCR), a consultation published in November 2018 on changing the method for recovering transmission and distribution network costs. With implementation expected from 2021, IHS Markit believes that the long-term business case for behind-the-meter storage will have to adapt as the benefit of lowering consumption during peak electricity demand periods, including Triads, will reduce.
