Matteo Marchello

Matteo joined IHS Technology in March 2016 as part of the TV programming team. His areas of research include broadcasting rights in sports and TV series. 

He holds an MSc in Industrial Economics from the University of East Anglia with a specialization in quantitative methods and one in Economics from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome. Prior to joining IHS, he worked as competition economist. 

He is fluent in Italian, Spanish and English.

Sky buys Champions League rights in Italy and Germany from 2018

Sky has secured the rights to broadcast all the Champions League games for three seasons starting in 2018 in Italy, Germany and Austria.

Lega Calcio aims for wider pool of bidders with new Serie A rights tender

Italy's Lega Calcio Serie A has restructured its packaging of rights for the next TV contract with the aim of attracting bids from telcos and online platforms. As before, the packages, running from the start of the 2018/19 season for three years, include satellite and digital terrestrial (DTT) rights similar to those currently held by incumbents Sky and Mediaset, but these packages do not include online, IPTV or mobile rights.

SFR and Altice score European football rights in France

French telecoms group SFR and its parent company Altice has acquired exclusive rights in France to the Champions League and Europa League for €350 million ($380 million) per season for three years starting in 2018/19. The rights are currently held by BeIn Sports, Canal Plus and M6. The payment represents a 60% increase on the current deal for 2015-2018.
