Mr. Matteo Marchello is a senior research analyst for Channels & Programming at IHS Markit.

His areas of research include broadcasting rights in sports and TV series. He joined IHS Markit in March 2016 as part of the TV programming team. Previously, he worked as competition economist. Mr. Matteo Marchello holds a Master of Science in Industrial Economics from the University of East Anglia, UK, with a specialization in quantitative methods and one in Economics from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome. He is fluent in Italian, Spanish and English.

Significant expansion of Channels and Programming Intelligence

Channels and Programming Intelligence has introduced a new methodology to estimate revenues from subscription on traditional platforms. The new approach, applied to an initial group of 22 countries will significantly increase the number of groups and operators covered from 38 to 136. The new groups covered from today include all major pay TV platforms, whether or not they operate their own channels.

Struggling Eleven Sports UK sheds further sports rights

Eleven Sports will continue to show exclusive coverage of Spain’s La Liga in the UK and Ireland, but will lose the Italian Serie A and Dutch Eredivisie from the end of this month. Eleven Sports said the move follows a ‘strategic decision to end our partnership with IMG’—the agency managing the rights. Eleven Sports, which launched online-only in the UK and Ireland in August, said it intended to continue offering La Liga beyond the current season. The operator agreed three-year deals for the UK rights to La Liga and Serie A starting from the 2018/19 season.
