Tim Traynor

Tim has an extensive background in media, technology and product development, and works with a range of IHS colleagues in creating custom research and consulting projects across the technology ecosystem, serving a wide range of top industry players.

Tim was formerly Senior Vice President of Advanced Services and Content at DIRECTV and played a key role in developing numerous innovative interactive TV products and services for set top boxes, smartphones, tablets and PCs.  Prior to DIRECTV, Tim worked at Hughes Space and Communications developing communication and imaging satellites. 

Tim holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ASU, a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from USC, and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School.

AT&T and DirecTV merge to form the largest pay TV provider in the USA

AT&T’s $48.5 billion acquisition of the largest satellite provider in the U.S., DirecTV, was officially completed on July 24. The approval – with conditions – was issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The newly formed company will be comprised of more than 26.3 million domestic video subscribers, surpassing Comcast as the largest pay TV provider in the U.S.
