Mr. Daniel Sutton, senior research analyst at IHS Markit, covers the television industry and Sub-Saharan African television markets.

Daniel also provides data support for the company’s television and operator multiplay research, which has included developing a data visualization tool for the TV Media Intelligence Service. He joined IHS Markit in 2014, having spent several years as a financial analyst in a variety of industries.

Daniel studied Geography at the University of Wales, Bangor, with a focus on urban land use models and settlement development.

Further consolidation in Spanish cable as Euskaltel swoops for Telecable

Basque cable operator Euskaltel has announced it is to acquire Telecable, a cable operator based in the Asturias region in the north of Spain, for a total value of up to €701 million. The cable operator is currently owned by UK investment group Zegona, which is headed by two former Virgin Media executives. The deal will be financed by a cash payment of €186.5 million to Zegona, as well as a 15% stake in Euskaltel. Regulatory approval for the deal is expected in Q3 2017.

TalkTalk continues to shed customers post-hack in the face of strong competition from BT and Sky

UK IPTV operator BT added 74,000 television customers across the BT TV and EE TV brands in Q2 2016, bringing its total subscriber base to 1.6 million. In contrast, fellow UK IPTV operator TalkTalk saw its television subscriber base shrink by 23,000 in Q2 2016, while its broadband base decreased by 9,000. Meanwhile, satellite operator Sky sustained its customer growth in the UK and Ireland, increasing its total customer base by 93,000 in the last quarter, which included 31,000 new TV additions.
