Xin Zhang

Xin Zhang joined IHS in January 2011 as an analyst in the cinema team, undertaking the operational aspects of the Cinema Intelligence service.

Prior to joining IHS, Xin worked in China as an analyst for Lefuhao Entertainment International, tracking media consumption trends.

Xin holds an MSc in International Management from Royal Holloway, University of London where she wrote her dissertation on determinants of motion picture box office. Xin is Chinese and speaks Mandarin, English and basic French.

Box office in China remains flat in the first half of 2017

The Chinese box office rose 10.3% in the first half of 2017 compared to the same period the previous year, to reach 27.1 billion yuan ($4 billion). Furthermore, if we exclude the service fees charged by online ticketing agencies, the actual box office figure would be 25.4 billion yuan ($3.7 billion) and the growth rate would then be dragged down further to only 3%.

World Film Production 2015

The volume of world feature film production rose slightly to reach 7,653 projects in 2015, according to IHS Markit research. As usual, some previous years’ data has changed in the light of revisions from data sources. A total of 17 territories recorded annual output of more than 100 feature films, same with 2014. The top ten countries accounted for 68% of all films produced during the year.
