On 25 November 2019, Inphi announced it has started sampling its new Canopus coherent Digital Signal Processor (DSP), which the company claims is the industry’s first merchant 7 nm coherent DSP. The Inphi team focused the Canopus design on lower power dissipation, enabling it to support 400ZR small form factor (SFF) pluggable applications. 400ZR is an important specification as it promises to be the first interoperable coherent optics solution to offer the same faceplate density as pluggable client optics. This provides a nice 400G symmetry for edge routers and switches with 400G line-side connections of up to 120 km. We expect 400ZR transponders will become available in 2H20 and will gain significant market traction with hyperscale operators and some service providers for point-to-point DCI links.
