Increases in smartphone penetration, along with the roll out of 4G, has seen out-of-home video consumption rise in the past years. Mobile carrier plans to push 4G have largely focused on content partnerships, driving long-form content consumption out of the home. 

In this report, we analyze findings from IHS Markit’s latest Consumer Research: Devices, Media and Usage survey on video viewing habits on smartphones, particularly out of the home. The survey findings reveal how frequency of out-of-home viewing and content types accessed differ not only between countries but within countries, depending on region, mobile carrier, and user demographics.
