This report presents subscription revenues generated by 239 pay TV channel and platform operators in 22 countries, using a new methology. The report also compares revenues generated by traditional operators and new online platforms. Pay TV operators active in the three macro-areas of Western Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America are featured, investigating the market dynamics of each region. We have also analysed the breakdown of revenues generated by operators from platform and carriage fee payments.

Highlights:

  • Out of the 135 channel operators, 56 are active in more than one territory, while 79 are active in one country only
  • Netflix’s revenues amounted to 69% of worldwide online subscription revenues in our sample of 22 countries in 2018
  • Sky is the largest player active in the 22 markets analysed: in 2018 it accounted for 79% of TV subscription revenues in Italy, 72% in UK and 36% in Germany
