Another busy year for the console market in 2018, as the sector continued to thrive in terms of exclusive and strong-performing games, as well as a maturing of the console freemium offering via publishers such as Ubisoft. The World games console market grew by 10% in dollar terms in 2018, to $47 billion, with every part of the market growing bar physical software sales.

Lively performance from Nintendo’s Switch has offset the imminent decline due from PS4 and Xbox One entering the latter half of their cycles. The prospect of disruption stemming from a major tech company entering the market and successfully competing with consoles remains forever in effect.
