Cinema has been growing globally for some years now, driven by emerging and expanding markets, to reach a $40bn plus business. While this global growth cannot go on forever, the reality is that the market is still expanding globally, and with new markets coming on stream (such as Saudi Arabia) but with regional variations that drive local cinema economies. These local conditions don’t always fit the same narrative of growth.

Highlights:

  • China is the fastest growing country by admissions over 2013-2017
  • Western Europe and North American growth has stalled
