The IHS Markit smart city project database has grown to include more than 900 projects in beyond 400 cities. As governments around the world grow more familiar with smart city concepts, more municipalities are embracing them to meet their citizens’ demands, driving the replication of smart cities around the world. The smart country or region is a natural extension of the IHS Markit smart city research. Hence, the Smart Countries Index was built and added to the 2017 edition of the report. In this report, IHS Markit presents the top 25 cities and countries from the Indexes. In each Index, you will also find analysis of the top five cities/countries. Case studies on smart city challenges or programs in three countries and specific smart city applications in four cities are included as well. The report also includes an output table which shows the top 25 cities and countries with their smart projects by project group and ranking.
