IHS Markit expects that over the next three years colocation data centers will play an important role in providing physical DC capacity quickly and in a geographically distributed fashion to meet new requirements for compute and storage spurred by the need to collect, process, and analyze data from the growing base of connected devices.

Using a panel of qualified IT decision-makers, we conducted a web survey in April 2018 with 114 North American organizations that currently use colocation services and have at least 101 employees.

This report summarizes the results of the survey which addresses the state of colocation adoption by medium to large enterprises and how that will change over the next two years. The drivers, barriers, and selection criteria for choosing a colocation provider are also analyzed.
