Global box office grows healthily in 2017

Global box office revenue grew significantly by 4.8% in 2017, ending the year with $39.6 billion (for all data available). This is a healthy result compared to the slight drop experienced in 2016. Cinema attendance rose healthily by 3.4%, to reach 7.8 billion, in 2017. Much of this growth came from Asia and China more specifically. As for cinema screens, there were approximately 178,967 screens at end 2017, a net increase of over 12,000 screens year on year, equating to a strong 7.7% growth over 2016.
