On 5 June 2018, IHS Markit analyst Aurore Penillard from the Power and Renewables group attended the Solarplaza event “Solar Market Parity EU”, in Milan.
This presentation on wholesale electricity price projections in Europe shows how hourly wholesale power prices are heavily influenced by power generation costs and policies. These prices have declined alongside lower commodity prices and increased renewable power generation. Prices are projected to rebound after 2020, and merchant solar PV can be competitive, even if there is a risk of a cannibalization effect.
