Overall hardware unit sales grew in the third quarter, but only due to Nintendo's freshly-launched Switch and incremental sales of the PS4. All other hardware devices are in decline this quarter. PS4, which has always led Xbox One sales this generation, has accelerated ahead this year-to-date, widening the sales gap on its rival.

Highlights:

  • PS4 and Switch lead growth, among a host of declines
  • PS Vita winds down, with over 90% of sales in Japan
  • America leads Switch uptake, closely followed by Japan
