Today Sonus and GENBAND announced its intention to merge the two companies. This is not a surprise because it’s been rumored that the two companies have been in discussions over the past year. Additionally, both companies stand out as pure-plays in the service provider VoIP market facing increasing pressure from the three large telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs): Ericsson, Huawei, and Nokia. As the market begins its contraction with an increasing amount of business driven from mobile operators, vendors such as Sonus and GENBAND have been affected. At the close of the merger, it is expected that Sonus and GENBAND shareholders will each own 50% of the combined company. The value of the transaction is approximately $745M. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2017. Clients, log in to read the complete insight.
