Infrared LEDs emitters, or IREDs, are used in various applications such as industrial light curtains, smoke detectors, consumer remote controls, and CCTV security cameras. Increasingly, they are now seeing use in biometrics such as iris and face recognition.
It is a well established business and both low and higher power products are available for sale as well as a range of wavelengths, mostly 800-950nm. Many leading semiconductor companies in the West, Japan and Taiwan are participating in this market. The market saw strong growth in 2015.
