Apple Pay and Samsung Pay Andorid added seven new territories in Q2 2016. Microsoft launched its mobile payment service in the US. The payments service might help Microsoft’s competitive position in the US, but has likely come too late to overcome its wider struggles in the smartphone market. Huawei and Xiaomi are also planning to roll out their own mobile payments services later in 2016 in their domestic Chinese market. Three new players joined the wearable payments services market  in Q2 2016: Fitbit, Visa and Kerv. Partnering with financial institutions and merchants, whilst developing compatibility with different smartphone operating systems will be the key for wearables’ success in the payments market.
