Global d-screens rose 10.6% to reach 141,050 in 2015

IHS has now added data for digital and 3D screen totals at Q4 2015 for all territories and regions tracked by Cinema Intelligence. The data is also available for equipment manufacturers and as market share comparisons.

According to IHS, the total number of global d-cinema screens reached 141,050 in 29,445 sites as at year end 2015 (Q4), marking a 10.6% increase from the same total at year end 2014. There were a net addition of 13,834 d-screens in full year 2015, down from 16,137 the previous year and representing the lowest annual net addition since 2009. The total 3D screen footprint reached 74,562 at year end 2015. On a worldwide basis, 3D now accounts for the majority or 52.9% of all d-screens, a proportion that continues to rise up from 50.8% at end 2014 (the first time 3D screens reached a majority contribution on a worldwide basis) and up from a smaller 47.6% share as at end 2013.
