Now that most vehicles have some degree of connectivity (either built-in or brought-in) automakers are now looking to advance the connectivity of their devices with other IoT verticals, such as smart home or smart cities. Ford showed an integration of its SYNC 3 platform with Amazon Echo where the user could turn on kitchen lights, open the garage door, and warm up the house remotely from their vehicle while on the road via speech recognition. Conversely, from your kitchen, using Amazon Echo, the user can remote start their vehicle, or check on the driving range just by asking Alexa. Other players like BMW, Ericsson, Panasonic, Toyota, and Volvo also highlighted how their products could integrate or drive development in other IoT verticals.
