As in 2014, Nexon’s lead has once again lessened, with market share of 46% of the whole PC games business in Q2. This is a seasonal quiet time when the company usually slows its promotional activity, in order to prepare major updates or in-game events for Q3 that take advantage of upcoming holidays in the period. Its share was mostly captured by NCSOFT, whose MMOG Lineage is holding on to a solid user base.

Weakness through seasonality and a lack of confidence in the Korean PC games industry have led to general decline for other major publishers, who reduced most marketing activities and instead increased focus on other segments.

  • Korean Thanksgiving arrives later into Q3 than in 2014, causing a change of content strategy among publishers
