Almost exactly one year after the Thread Group initially announced the creation of the Thread low-power wireless networking protocol, the group announced the release of the 1.0 version of the Thread specification on July 14. The certification program and software stacks from ARM, Freescale, and Silicon Labs will be available in September.  The group expects Thread certified products to be available to consumers by the end of 2015.

In the same announcement, the Thread Group announced that Qualcomm has joined the group at the same level as the founding companies, the “sponsor” level. In addition, Qualcomm will get a seat on the board of directors.
