Telefonica wins rights to Spanish football for 2015/2016 season

Content deal: Telefónica has secured the TV rights to Spanish domestic football for the upcoming 2015/2016 season for €600 million ($667 million), according to a joint statement released today by the telco and La Liga. Telefónica, which owns the Canal Plus pay TV platform, has acquired pay TV rights to the top two divisions of Spanish league football - the Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante - together with the Copa del Rey. The two organisations said the agreement would be 'beneficial for other operators, the clubs and the fans'.
