The pay TV market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) experienced another year of strong growth in 2014. Total primary pay TV households rose to 4.8 million at the end of 2014, a year-on-year increase of 12.4%. Between 2010 and 2014, the pay TV market saw a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.3%. The growth in pay TV revenues was even more impressive: from €702 million in 2013 to €873 million in 2014. That represents a 24.4% growth year-on-year, almost double the growth rate in subscribers.

Primary pay TV penetration was 10.52% at the end of 2014, breaking the double-digit threshold for the first time (it stood at 9.25% in 2013). These figures align the MENA region with other developing pay TV markets in the world like Brazil, India, South Africa and Turkey. The basic characteristic for all the above markets is a healthy forecast growth rate in subscriber numbers (around 5%) for the next five years to the end of 2019.
