  • Consumer spending for DVD declined 3.7% to €94.2 million, Blu-ray Disc (BD) declined by 3.2% to €41.4 million – relative stability the result of average price increases for both formats.
  • Retailer, Weltbild, has reduced its DVD and BD offering, but overall availability of physical remains stable.
  • Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video are now available in Austria; both launched H2 2014.

The Austrian market is characterised as relatively stable, compared to neighbouring Switzerland and other small Western European markets like Belgium and the Netherlands, which have seen significant decline in physical disc consumption since 2009. Austria, in direct contrast, has not seen the large year-on-year “step-like” declines in DVD volumes, which have occurred in these three markets since 2012.
