Sales of Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One combined over the first ten months are well ahead of the last generation over the same time frame. Our latest data shows the first ten months of sales performance across key territories in European and PAL region territories. Combined PAL regional sales are up 38% over the previous generation.

The report uncovers the two tier nature of the European market with some territories performing strongly and others down on the previous generation. The question remains: can this overall strong start to the life of the PS4 and Xbox One be continued past the early adopter phase? We lay out our view.

Highlights:

  • Combined PS4 and Xbox One sales across PAL sales region are up 38% compared to last generation.
  • But Western European growth of 25% masks both increases and declines across different country markets
  • Germany is biggest PS4 market across the PAL region compared to fourth biggest at this stage for the PS3
  • Performance in emerging markets shows evolution of console business in those markets over the last five years
