Our Q2 instalment of price tracking results for major game titles, across eight major online retailers in UK and USA. This time, we focus on the inter-generational pricing differences for each territory, for a number of major software releases. What emerges is a picture that reflects our findings from earlier in the year: the UK market conducts particularly heavy discounting of games for the outgoing generation of consoles, while the USA market attempts to keep pricing on a par with that of the incoming generation.

Highlights:

  • UK Inter-generational pricing gap nearly doubles on Battlefield 4
  • Even during opening month of a new IP (Watch Dogs), UK pricing differs materially from USA
  • Digital pricing on Xbox 360 shows further signs of operating independently of physical retail

In this report:

  • Inter-generational pricing: Battlefield 4, three-month view
  • Inter-generational pricing: Call of Duty: Ghosts, three-month view
  • Inter-generational pricing: Assassin’s Creed 4, three-month view
  • Inter-generational pricing: Watch Dogs, one-month view
  • Digital versus physical retail (Xbox 360)
