Russian box office jumped by 13.3 % in 2013, to RUB 42.6bn ($1.3bn), to remain one of Europe’s largest theatrical markets. Driven by new screens, predominantly in shopping centres, and a growing release slate, Hollywood takes the lion’s share of the revenues on offer although domestic production also fares relatively well. This report summarises the market developments in the Russian theatrical and exhibition sectors during 2013, including the rise of entertainment technology within cinemas.
