IHS Technology’s recent research, Operator M&A Trends: July-December 2013: time for in-country mobile mergers highlights that of 34 deals we tracked, 10 will upon completion result in in-country mobile consolidation. These 10 are spread across all regions of the world. The drivers of these deals: enhancing spectrum holdings, saving costs and boosting multiplay capabilities, will drive further deals across the world in 2014. But telecoms and anti-trust regulators won't shrink from blocking or imposing pro-competitive conditions on these deals. The European Commission is closely reviewing Telefónica's planned acquisition of E-Plus and Industry Canada has blocked the transfer of 2.3GHz spectrum to Bell Canada and Rogers.
