In November 2013, Cisco and Wilocity announced a partnership where Wilocity will provide Cisco with tri-band solutions for use in the enterprise market.  Wilocity’s tri-band chipsets integrate 802.11ad, which operates in the 60GHz band, with 802.11ac and 802.11b/g/n, which operate in the 5GHz band and 2.4GHz band, respectively. Initially, Cisco will offer WiGig-enabled access points (APs), which will ultimately evolve into multimode cellular/Wi-Fi APs.

The synergy is clear: Wilocity will help Cisco maintain its lead in enterprise WLAN; and in turn, Cisco’s integration of Wilocity’s chipsets helps the 60GHz start-up stay at the forefront of WiGig momentum when larger companies, such as Broadcom and Intel, are purported to enter the market with their own 802.11ad solutions in the coming year.
