This report looks at the availability of HD channels in Europe. The evolution of HD channels in Europe has been driven by pay TV, although free-to-air (FTA) launches have gained some momentum. Major pay TV operators are placing mainly FTA HD channels in basic packages, although a closer examination of HD channel placement in the big five shows that pay HD channels are continuing to be used as part of upselling strategies.
