Much of the innovation in today?s consumer electronics (CE) industry is driven directly or indirectly by mobile devices. Most major companies in the pay TV customer premise equipment (CPE) value chain now offer an Android solution, strategy, and/or public messaging to address the prospect of Android in pay TV STBs. Despite high interest, there is no coherent industry consensus on the case for Android in pay TV STBs. Currently, there are eight pending and confirmed deployments of Pay TV Android STBs, mostly in China, Japan and South Korea. Whilst it has managed to secure a foothold in Asia, Android is yet to significant gain traction in the Americas or EMEA.
