IHS has conducted research on motor drives for nearly twenty years and collected data on Mexico, Brazil, and rest of Latin America in the past. This is the first edition of a Latin American specific study on the market for Low Voltage AC & DC Motor Drives. Low voltage motor drives revenues and units are presented through 2017 by product type, country, power rating, voltage, and industry. Countries analysed are: Argentina, Brazil, Central America, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, and the rest of Latin America.  Base year revenue and unit shipment data presented for 2011 and 2012. Forecasts are presented through 2017 and market shares are provided by product type and for the total market.

In 2012, sales of low voltage AC & DC motor drives in Latin America declined by 1% from $426M to $422M, primarily due to a difficult year for drive sales in Brazil and Argentina.

Latin America provides a variety of opportunities for drive vendors; however, each country presents different challenges and opportunities. Each Latin American Country’s drive market is different and dependent on the: structure of each economy, regulations, trade restrictions, currency controls, politics, demographics, energy landscape, environmental concerns, distribution structure, and the number and type of drive suppliers. In addition, the purchasing metrics for each country can vary with price, quality, and service changing roles on a country-by-country basis. This study provides insight into each country outlined in this study that will enable the reader to understand these markets.  IHS forecasts that drive sales will accelerate in 2013 and 2014 as demand for commodities stabilizes, Brazil’s economy strengthens leading up to the FIFA World Cup and Summer Olympics, and Mexico continues to benefit from stronger US demand.
