Just a small handful of players dominate the increasingly significant market of gateways and other broad- band customer premises equipment (CPE) needed by cable service providers to help secure new revenue streams, according to a special report from the IHS Broadband & Digitally Connected Home service of information and analysis provider IHS.

In the latest estimates available, a total of six original equipment manufacturers (OEM) account for a whopping 94 percent of the cable broadband CPE space, which features broadband equipment allowing faster data transfer speeds.
