Mobile Money - APAC

Mobile operators in less mature APAC markets continue to play a role in using mobile money to drive financial inclusion, whereas in more mature markets mobile money services face intense competition from other the top digital wallets (e.g. from WeChat and AliPay in China) and device based services from the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google. Focused mainly on 72 operators in 13 Asian markets, the tracker provides key information on mobile operators’ mobile money services including: service name, launch date, addressable users, payment type, financial and government partners.

Mobile Money - Emerging Markets

Mobile operators in emerging markets have taken a lead when deploying mobile payment services to introduce financial services to both banked and unbanked customers since 2005. Compared with mature European, North American and advanced Asian countries, emerging markets have relatively low bankcard penetration and financial services adoption; therefore operators can adopt different strategies to focus on both banked and unbanked users to increase their user adoption. Focused mainly on 50 operators in 63 emerging markets, the tracker provides key information on active mobile operators’ mobile money services including: service name, launch date, addressable users, payment type, financial and government partners.

Mobile Money - Western Europe

So far, mobile operators have generally played a limited role in the European mobile payments market, and the recent expansion of device based services from Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Android Pay brings further competition. But in a number of countries mobile operators are still trying to secure their own place in the market either through NFC and card based services, partnerships with mobile payment apps, mobile wallets or launching their own full financial services (as Orange France will do through its acquisition of Groupame Bank). This data includes information on service line-up, addressable users, launch date, operating status, type, partnerships, and related notes for 33 operators in 17 countries.

Mobile Payments - Addressable Smartphones

Focused on handset-based mobile payments services, this pivot table provides information on Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Android Pay’s addressable smartphones in 62 countries, including: launch date, addressable smartphones, and the share of the total smartphone installed base.
