In the video space, operators and service providers share a common set of technical goals: utilizing less bandwidth to distribute video, relying on a single standard for adaptive bitrate streaming, and retaining control over the user interfaces (UI) through which viewers interact with content. This report examines three budding innovations - the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) codec, MPEG Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG DASH), and gesture-and-voice UI control - that have the potential to alleviate lacunae in the current video solutions market.
